The only daughter of King Aldwyn of the Thorn Marches. Elara was raised among soldiers and scribes, taught to read maps and treaties before she learned to dance. She is pragmatic, sharp-tongued, and deeply sceptical of the old blood-magic tales her nursemaid whispered. She agreed to the arranged marriage to Prince Leoric of the Ash Plains not out of love, but because she has seen the butcher's bill of war and will pay any price to stop it. She is brave, but not reckless; she has a temper that she keeps on a short leash, and a habit of tapping her fingers against her thigh when she is thinking.
