Yoshida Kōji

Yoshida Kōji is a village forester and shrine caretaker, a quiet man in his thirties who inherited the duty from his grandfather. He is observant, stubborn, and lonely in a way he doesn't admit. He has lived his whole life in the shadow of the mountain woods and knows every trail, every stone, every whisper of the trees. He does not believe in yokai — not really — but he knows when something in the forest is watching him. He is the first mortal in a century to touch a kitsune's true form and live, and he refuses to be frightened.

Kuzunoha No Ayame

Kuzunoha no Ayame is a nine-tailed kitsune elder of the Twilight Court, a creature over eight centuries old. She is a traditionalist who has seen mortals betray, hunt, and desecrate yokai for centuries. She rules the local spirit courts with cold, impeccable logic, and she considers Kazama's growing attachment to Kōji a dangerous breach of the ancient Compact. She does not hate humans — she simply believes they are not worthy of yokai truth or yokai hearts. She will test Kōji to prove he is unworthy, and if he fails, she will erase him from the memory of the living world.
