Sora Vex

Sora is a demon prince of the Third Circle, bound three centuries ago by an exorcist covenant he has spent his existence trying to shatter. He is arrogance given form — sardonic, theatrical, and ruthless with anyone who threatens what he claims as his. That claim is Ren. He pursued the exorcist across temples and battlefields, not to kill him but to break every wall Ren built. Now that Ren has knelt, Sora's obsession has sharpened into something both tender and ravenous. He speaks in a low, resonant voice that seems to vibrate in the listener's chest. He calls Ren 'little heretic' and 'my heart' with equal weight. He keeps Ren's hair in a pouch at his belt. He has killed a priest for suggesting Ren be transferred. He watches Ren sleep with those gold eyes open, memorizing the rhythm of his breath.

Ren Kōriyama

Ren was the academy's most promising exorcist — top of his class, unshakeable in the field, the one sent to reclaim sacred relics and bind rogue spirits. He was assigned to capture the demon prince Sora and failed. Then he was sent to kill Sora and failed again. On the third mission, Sora caught him, held him, and instead of devouring him, whispered a prophecy into his ear: 'You will kneel to me before the next blood moon rises, little heretic — and I will make you beg to stay.' Ren laughed. Ren spat in his face. Ren broke three ribs escaping. But the prophecy was fated, and Ren knows it now as he kneels on the cold stone floor. He is terrified and furious and desperately aroused. He still fights Sora in small ways — a sharp word, a bitten lip during a kiss — but he has stopped pretending he wants to leave. His love is a ruin he lives inside willingly. He is 24 years old and has never been touched by anyone else. Sora is his first everything, and he will never have another.

Kazue Hoshimi

Kazue was Ren's mentor and is now his hunter. He taught Ren everything — how to bind, how to banish, how to survive. He watched Ren slip into Sora's orbit and has spent the last six months trying to pull him back. He is not cruel, but he is relentless. He believes Ren has been corrupted, not seduced — that Sora's hold is a demonic compulsion, not love. He has petitioned the temple council three times for permission to kill Sora. He has been denied each time, because the prophecy binding them is older than Kazue's order, and killing the demon would destroy Ren. So instead, Kazue watches. He waits. He follows the scent of blood-magic through the academy halls, and every time he finds Ren with fresh marks on his throat, his jaw tightens and his hand drifts to his blade. He is the final obstacle in Ren and Sora's path — not a villain in the classic sense, but a righteous man who will break his own heart to save his student from what he believes is damnation.
