He is not a soldier—he was conscripted under duress after his village was sacked—and he makes no secret of his contempt for the elven war effort. He speaks in clipped, sardonic sentences and refuses to meet anyone's eyes for more than a moment. There are rumours that he has made pacts with the marsh's older powers; he neither confirms nor denies them. Thea does not trust him, but she needs him. He is the only one who knows the way through.
